Tales of the Uninspected

Welcome to our collection of Reports on Care Homes conducted by Eileen Chubb on behalf of Compassion in Care.

......People are seen to be upset, ignored and frustrated..a resident tells the CQC they do not like a male carer and they are too frightened to say why, this is not investigated further..two members of staff spoken to said things were not right but they felt they could not report this.....

.....residents do not have enough food as stocks are not available, this is a multi million pound company. This concern was raised with the CQC over a year earlier...There are serious concerns about medication.....

......In spite of the home being awarded two stars there is evidence all is not well..A member of staff tells the CQC that residents are at risk when there are no staff on the upper floor..A relative tells the CQC the home is losing some exceptionally commited and caring staff.....

.....The home is set in large grounds, with an orchard and large garden all round...a new company take over the home who sell the surrounding gardens to a developer who builds a car park and the residents are left with a small patio area which can not be used as there is no ramp.....

.....On one months medication sheets there were 76 doses of medication unaccounted for. There were large stockpiles of drugs found stacked so high that staff had to climb on top of a sink to reach them.....

......One resident had dirty soiled hands and nails, was unshaven, had very sore infected eyes, They were unwell and coughing...another resident was sat in a lounge shivering wearing a short sleeve jumper and no socks, they were dirty and unkempt and had dirty broken nails.....

..... The staffing levels are an issue and a member of staff said there were enough staff on the books which is not the same as enough staff on the floor.....

.....These issues were so serious that two members of staff have been put on the POVA list of abusers..yet throughout all this time the CQC did not make a single visit to this home and furthermore states that no inspection is required for yet another year.. I can see why the CQC prefer not to mention the last four years of this homes inspection history, its not just the homes reputation that would be damaged.....

.....When the CQC hide the existence of poor care homes, they are really hiding the CQCs failure to action against such homes.....

.....When a homes history is wiped clean by the CQC then information such as the below listed is withheld from the public.. Relatives were desperate enough to take their concerns to the CQC..low staffing levels, poor standards of care, poor managment and theft of peoples belongings.....
